This wine tasting event in Clark Pampanga at GHC Restaurant and Gardens is designed to help our wine-loving friends to expand the wine appreciation horizons by exploring fine wines that are not frequently served in restaurants and sold in wine shops in Pampanga. Even though they may not be famous, it doesn’t mean they are lower in class and stature than the famous Chateaux of Bordeaux or domains of Burgundy.

Expanding our wine appreciation horizons also opens up many new opportunities to pair wines with the food that we love to enjoy, and that includes local and Asian fares as well. With literally thousands of wines to choose from, it really doesn’t make much sense to restrict ourselves to choose from a tiny list of wines to enjoy with our food, does it?

On our wine tasting today, we will reveal one of Germany’s best kept secrets – her splendid Pinot-Noir-like red wines, called Spätburgunder. If you love Pinots from Burgundy, New Zealand or Oregon, it is time you add this to your region of choice. Smart wine collectors will note the climate change has shifted the growing region northwards, and this brings ripeness to the northern wine regions such as those in Baden, Germany.

RED WINE OF PORTUGAL

For wine lovers who has accidentally or intentionally fallen in love with, and therefore hopeless addicted to Port wine, Portugal is the holy land. For others, the name Portugal means very little, except for an occasional sip of the quaint white wine of Vinho Verde. But hang on, how about red wines? Don’t Port wine producers drink regular dry red wines? They surely do and they make really great ones too. The best red wines of Portugal are usually based on the Touriga Nacional grape which is the backbone of the great port wines. Like their port wines, the Touriga Nacional red wines have amazing ageing potential also. And if you prefer red wines at dinner and love local and Asian fares at the same time, these Portugal red wines may be your ticket to a harmonious wine and food dinner at home.

Not to be confused with the fruity bubblies of Italy called Prosecco, Cavas are made in the traditional Champagne method and unless otherwise stated, are as invigorating as any Champagne, only a little more price friendly.

Italy’s Red wines need no introduction, but this country has many hidden gems that for one reason or another have eluded the attention of wine lovers. The varietal – Aglianico – produces a full-bodied, rich, robust red wine that can improve with age like its more illustrious siblings to the north, namely Barolo and Brunello. Native to Southern Italy’s Campania and Basilicata, Aglianico is rarely planted elsewhere which may account for its relative obscurity which by the way, did not supress its price. The high quality of the wines from these regions, especially the Aglinico hailing from the town of Taurasi, commands prices at par with the more famous red wines of Italy, Wine collectors are therefore well advised to stock up now while the picking is good and the prices are reasonable.
